Chris Kabourek began his term as the interim president of the University of Nebraska System on January 1, 2024.
Welcome to the University of Nebraska – our state’s only public university, home to nearly 50,000 talented students and 16,000 faculty and staff whose teaching, research and service impacts lives in Nebraska and around the world. It is an honor and privilege to have been part of this institution for the past 26 years.
My own story is like that of many Nebraskans. I grew up in a farming family in David City and was one of about 45 in my high school graduating class. With help from Pell Grants and loans, I became the first in my family to go to college. I’m proof that higher education can change your life – and if I can be an example to other young Nebraskans weighing decisions about their future, then I truly believe I’ll have done my job.
My promise to all Nebraskans is that we will do everything we can to make their University the best it can possibly be. We have the right people in place and a strong foundation for the University of Nebraska to compete at the highest levels – in academics, research and athletics. It will take hard work and discipline with our resources, but I’m confident we will put in the effort necessary for our University to reach its full potential. Our students, taxpayers and all those who invest in the mission of one of Nebraska’s great institutions expect and deserve no less.
I invite you to contact me at president@nebraska.edu with your comments and ideas. Thank you for your interest in and support of the University of Nebraska.
