The University of Nebraska Board of Regents will meet Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Varner Hall, 3835 Holdrege St. in Lincoln. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. The meeting also will be streamed live at www.nebraska.edu. A detailed agenda is available here.
On March 31, NU System President Ted Carter announced Dr. Joanne Li as the priority candidate for chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha, following a national search and a series of listening sessions with UNO stakeholders about what qualities the university should seek in its next leader. Li’s candidacy is currently nearing the conclusion of a 30-day public vetting period required by state law. Members of the UNO community and public are encouraged to continue submitting feedback to Carter about Li’s candidacy at this website through the end of the vetting period on Friday, April 30.
After the vetting period ends, and after reviewing all feedback, Carter may formally ask the Board on Saturday to consider Li’s appointment. If approved, she would become chancellor-elect on June 1 in order to begin transition work, and would assume the title of UNO chancellor on July 1. Li would become the first woman of color to serve as UNO chancellor and the first Asian-American in the history of the University of Nebraska system to hold an executive leadership role.
Li is currently the dean, professor of finance and Ryder Eminent Scholar Chair in Business in the College of Business at Florida International University.
