Compliance with state authorization is a continuous process for NU Online. Recently, Massachusetts and Puerto Rico have been approved to join NC-SARA.
While NU is able to offer distance education programs to students in all 50 U.S. states, Washington, D.C. and some territories, programs that lead to professional licensure or certification are often subject to additional regulatory requirements.
The University of Nebraska is a member of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). SARA allows for a majority (if not all) NU distance education programs to be offered in 49 states, Washington D.C. Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. California and Guam are not currently members of SARA but a majority of NU programs are in regulatory compliance and are available to individuals who reside in California and Guam.
Should you have any questions regarding SARA, state authorization and licensure requirements, or the ability to offer a program online, please contact NU Online at online@nebraska.edu.
