Dear Colleagues:
One of the most exciting parts of our jobs is recognizing the important work the University of Nebraska and our partners are doing to grow our state's economy. Nebraska's economic competitiveness depends in part on the success of its public university in training the next generation of entrepreneurs and partnering with the private sector to expand opportunities for job growth and innovative activity.
Each year the University of Nebraska invites applications and nominations for our most prestigious awards for entrepreneurship - one given to businesses, one to students. Applications and nominations for these awards are being accepted now. We hope you will take this opportunity to apply or nominate a business or student whose entrepreneurial efforts merit public recognition.
“Nebraska's economic competitiveness depends in part on the success of its public university in training the next generation of entrepreneurs and partnering with the private sector to expand opportunities for job growth and innovative activity.”
Nomination forms are due Dec. 7. Completed applications are due Jan. 11. Brief descriptions of the awards follow:
- encourages existing businesses with a presence in Nebraska to create partnerships with the university in the area of technology. The winner receives $10,000 to be used for the promotion and/or the creation of multiple student work experiences in the fields of information science, technology and engineering.
- recognizes NU students who have directed their energies, ideas and talents toward community and business improvements with the innovative use of information technology. The award is given to a student or team of students enrolled in a degree program during the entrepreneurial activities and is accompanied by a $2,500 prize.
For each award, winners are selected by a university-wide committee representing the disciplines of information science, business and engineering. A member of the business community also serves on each selection committee. Award winners are honored at a luncheon hosted by the University of Nebraska president in the spring.
Thank you for your assistance in helping us recognizing outstanding achievements in entrepreneurship at the University of Nebraska and across our state.
Sincerely,
Hank Bounds
