Dear UNO Colleagues,
I am writing to invite your assistance as we begin the search for the next chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. This search is critical for UNO’s continued success and your input and engagement will be a valuable part of the process.
“The search advisory committee will represent key UNO constituencies and work to assure a rich and diverse pool of candidates.”
As you may know, when a vacancy opens in a chancellor’s position, the president of the university is required to promptly appoint an advisory committee to assist in the search for suitable candidates. I invite you to submit nominations of individuals to serve on the UNO Chancellor Search Advisory Committee. I will appoint a committee that represents key UNO constituencies – faculty, staff, students, community members and others – and which will work affirmatively to assure a rich and diverse pool of candidates that exemplifies the values of UNO and the University of Nebraska. I welcome, and frankly expect, nominations that are as broad and inclusive as the university the search committee will represent.
Nominees should be prepared to make this search a high priority beginning next month. During the search, committee members will be asked to set aside their individual interests and represent the institution as a whole. Of course, confidentiality and candor will be of paramount importance and no one who serves on the committee may be a candidate for the position. Please forward your nominations to me at president@nebraska.edu as soon as possible and no later than Thursday, Nov. 3. In addition to the name of the person or people you nominate, it would be helpful to me to know why you think your nominee would be a good search advisory committee member.
Thanks to your hard work and the leadership of Chancellor John Christensen, UNO has built impressive momentum in serving students and meeting the needs of the community and state. I am grateful to Chancellor Christensen for his many years of service to this university and I am well aware of the responsibility involved in selecting a successor who can pick up where he will leave off. I look forward to working with you as we undertake this critical task.
Thank you in advance for your engagement, and for all you do for the University of Nebraska.
Sincerely,
Hank M. Bounds, Ph.D.
President, University of Nebraska
