To the Students of the University of Nebraska System:
First, to the Class of 2020, congratulations. We’re so proud of all that you’ve accomplished, especially in this most unusual of semesters. We can’t wait to see what you achieve next.
To those of you still on your academic journeys, we want you to know how honored we are to have you as part of the University of Nebraska family. Now more than ever, the quality and affordability of your education is our top priority. We want to make sure each of you can graduate on time, with as little debt as possible, with a degree that will prepare you for success in life and work – while caring first and foremost for your health and well-being.
Yesterday we announced that tuition across the University of Nebraska system will be frozen for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years. The two-year freeze applies across the board, to all students on our four campuses. We’ve also created a new program called the Nebraska Promise that will cover full tuition costs for those of you with family incomes of $60,000 or less. We hope these steps send a message of care and commitment to you and your families during what we know has been a uniquely challenging period.
Meanwhile, we are preparing to safely welcome you back to campus for in-person learning in the fall. We know how important the on-campus experience is to your overall education, and while no one can promise a return to “business as usual,” we want to provide you with some degree of predictability about what’s ahead.
Challenging times come and go, after all, but the power of a University of Nebraska education to change the trajectory of your life has not changed
Congratulations on another successful academic year. We look forward to seeing you in the fall.
Ted Carter
President, University of Nebraska System
