Dear Colleagues:
We hope these final few days of the semester are going well for you. We know how hard you have worked this year, in many cases taking on new duties to help the University of Nebraska navigate the challenges presented by COVID-19. We can’t say enough how grateful we are for your efforts.
We also know this work takes time and energy. As a gesture of thanks, and in recognition of how important it is that we take care of ourselves, we are granting all leave-eligible employees two additional days of paid leave.
For most of us who are part of the University of Nebraska holiday closedown (UNL, UNO, UNK and Office of the President employees), this means our last day of work for the year will be Tuesday, Dec. 21. Wednesday, Dec. 22 and Thursday, Dec. 23 will be paid leave days. Your supervisor or campus human resources office will provide further information on how to record these additional leave days.
UNMC employees will receive two “banked” days of paid leave to be used at a time of their choosing, in coordination with their supervisors and UNMC policies.
Some colleagues, like campus police officers and those who work in dining services, may be required to report to work during the closedown. Chancellors will notify employees who are designated as “essential” during this period. Those employees who are required to work during the closedown will receive “banked” time to be used later.
Our goal is for the University of Nebraska to be an employer of choice – a place where talented people come, stay to build successful careers, and feel valued not only for their work but as human beings. We hope this additional leave gives you an opportunity to rest, relax and enjoy time with loved ones, and that it signals how much we value you and your contributions.
We thank you for all that you do for our university, and we wish you a restful and joyous holiday season. We look forward to seeing you in 2022.
