The Board of Regents is pleased to recognize the team of UNK’s Office of the University Registrar. In the midst of a change in leadership and unprecedented challenges brought by the pandemic crisis, they have pulled together in admirable fashion. University Registrar Lisa Neal and Associate Registrar Ryan Schmitt lead the team, but they are quick to give praise and credit to the entire crew: Jessica and Joel, Kim and Laura, Mallory and Margaret, and Olivia, Trista and Vickie.

Throughout the difficult times, their goal remained simple: to serve UNK students in the best way possible. Pandemic-related policy revisions included extending students’ class withdrawal deadline and their deadline to change from letter grades to a credit/no credit option; providing guidance for policy changes; expanding acceptance of class credits for transfer students; and providing support for combining spring and summer commencement ceremonies. All were high-detail processes, but were made convenient and understandable for students by their creation of an exceptional “frequently-asked-questions” mailer. Added to this was their implementation of “Perceptive Content” management software.

Senior Vice Chancellor Charles Bicak lauds their efforts. “Lisa and Ryan were newly hired and in place for a short time before contending with the pandemic and the shift to the online spring semester,” he says.“ Lisa made important decisions that were well informed by Deans, Chairs, faculty and myself to ensure smooth transitions. She and Ryan also dealt in professional style with changing transfer alignments with community colleges and other transfer institutions. Related to this, we will install a new General Studies Program beginning in the fall. This has been dependent upon the flexibility, resilience, and academic insight of their staff.”
