The Board of Regents is pleased to present a KUDOS award to Kyla Gorji, Employee Assistance Program Director, Human Resources.
Kyla has been an integral part of UNL's EAP for 15 years, initially as a Counselor and later taking on leadership responsibilities starting in 2018. The EAP serves as a vital mental health counseling and workplace consultation service, offering support to faculty and staff. Notably, this past year witnessed a record number of employee contacts, showcasing the important services EAP provides to our campus. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the office maintained full services and supported our University faculty and staff admirably. UNL’s model offers our EAP services in-house at a significantly higher cost-effectiveness than peer universities.
Throughout her tenure, Kyla has adeptly guided employees through challenging circumstances, offering actionable strategies for navigating personal and professional hurdles. Her communication style fosters ease, and her insights often present creative solutions for our employees. Kyla embodies UNL's motto, "every person, every interaction matters," approaching each situation with empathy that ensures employees feel heard and understood.
Kyla's influence extends significantly in aiding the campus during traumatic events, where she plays a pivotal role. Her partnership with university leaders in handling tough situations underscores her compassionate nature and deep concern for our employees' well-being.
Kyla's multifaceted contributions within the EAP exemplify her dedication to supporting our community, making her an invaluable asset to our institution.
With Kyla today are her Supervisor, Steve Beck, and her partner, Thomas Gorji.
