On behalf of the Board of Regents, I am pleased to present a KUDOS Award to Susan Blumel of UNMC’s Internal Medicine Clinical Trials Office.
As a lead clinical research nurse coordinator, Susan manages cutting-edge treatment plans for investigational therapies and works with multiple departments across campus. Nominators praise her ability to see the big picture and create ideas that move oncology clinical trials forward in a positive direction.
As one example, Susan worked on the initial cellular therapy trials at UNMC to develop a plan and process for the administration and care of patients. Now, CAR-T therapy is FDA-approved for several different types of cancers. The systems she put into place for those initial clinical trials continue to be the backbone of how cellular therapy patients are being cared for today at Nebraska Medicine.
Susan’s nominator and colleague says Susan “is a big reason why I am still here,” and adds, “Her dedication to her job, patients, family and friends go unmatched. She is respected as an expert and has the admiration of both her peers and the clinical research team.”
Today, she is joined by her supervisor Rachal Brantley; her nominator Maribeth Hohenstein and her spouse, Jeff Blumel. Join me in thanking Susan for her contributions and impact - 35-years and counting - on patients, clinical research studies and the entire clinical research team at UNMC.
