On behalf of the Board of Regents, I am pleased to present a KUDOS Award to Johnny Fichter, Zone Facility Technician in Facilities, Management and Planning at UNMC.
In this role, Johnny oversees maintenance issues at UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute, a facility uniquely suited to provide care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Johnny is comfortable dealing with a range of issues from preventive maintenance to minor renovations to HVAC, plumbing and lighting. One of his more unique tasks is maintaining MMI’s iconic wind-powered kinetic sculpture titled, ‘Soar’, while ensuring it continues to turn freely. He is, also, UNMC’s expert on pool maintenance as MMI clients have access to an indoor exercise pool, therapy pool and splash pad.
Johnny began working at UNMC Facilities, Management and Planning in November 2005, and is heralded as a well-rounded technician who greets everyone with energy, respect and an enthusiastic good day.
“Johnny looks for the best way to repair and maintain this beautiful facility,” his nominator said. “His attention and respect for the building lets the individuals we serve - and their families - know they are valued and welcome.”
With him today are his Supervisor, Sean Smith; Marvin Olson, Facilities Manager, Tyler Busboom, Director of Facilities and Jennifer Bartholomew Vice President of Facilities Management.
Join me in thanking Johnny for his expertise and dedication in maintaining UNMC’s Munroe-Meyer Institute, and for the energy and customer service skills he employs with everyone he meets.
