On behalf of the Board of Regents, I am honored to present the KUDOS Award to Alex Straatmann, Chief Compliance Officer at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Alex’s journey at UNK began as a student, graduating in 2000. Even then, he showcased his leadership potential, serving as student body vice president from 1998-1999. After completing law school, Alex worked for Congressman Adrian Smith before returning to UNK in 2022 as our Chief Compliance Officer. Alex oversees compliance with Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and manages our conflict-of-interest system.
Since joining UNK, Alex has built strong, trusting relationships across campus. He collaborates closely with departments such as human resources, police and parking services, student affairs, and the deans and directors. He prioritizes effective education and outreach and ensures fairness in every aspect of his work. Alex embraces the servant leadership model, offering expert guidance to individuals throughout campus.
Leadership and community engagement are Alex's core values. He participates in the Leadership Nebraska program, has served on the Kearney Public Schools Board, is a member of Kearney’s City Council, and holds the rank of Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.
His supervisor notes, “Alex is a valuable resource for people across campus. I hear regularly from individuals who turn to him for guidance.” And, “Alex is proactive in helping the campus avoid challenges. He does this through outreach and building strong relationships before issues arise.”
With Alex today is his wife, Dr. Kim Andresen and supervisor, Dr. John Falconer, Senior Advisor to the Chancellor. Please join me in congratulating Alex for his dedication and outstanding contributions to our campus and community.
