Building & Fire Safety is dedicated to providing the highest level of building-related life safety and code enforcement for the campus community and all who interact with it. As a Delegated Authority of the Nebraska State Fire Marshal, the team enforces the State Fire Code and works with Facilities Planning & Capital Programs to ensure that the University receives positive return on all construction investments. Building & Fire Safety's work involves monitoring every aspect of the University's changing skyline and interior environment—ranging in scale from the smallest remodel to landmark structures—and providing a full range of required inspections for the University community.

- Delegated Authority of the Nebraska State Fire Marshal
- Code authority per the Nebraska State Building Act
- Plan review for NFPA 101 & IBC compliance
- Inspection of installed building components for NFPA 101 & IBC Compliance
- Inspection and testing of Fire Sprinkler systems
- Inspection and testing of Fire Alarm systems
- Final building inspection and acceptance, including emergency generators and tanks and other special conditions
- Oversight of periodic tests
- Fire investigation and reporting
- Investigation of complaints
- Building assessments, including development of Fire Safety Planning & Plans of Correction
- Event approval, including fireworks and any use of special effects (smoke, mist, etc.)
