The Office of the General Counsel represents the University in addressing and resolving labor and employment law matters affecting the University’s faculty and staff.
This representation includes working as a strategic partner with and offering daily advice to the University’s Board of Regents, senior administrators, and human resources personnel in ensuring compliance with the relevant labor and employment law statutes and regulations; developing and interpreting policies, programs, and procedures; handling and managing employment-related litigation, administrative proceedings, and internal proceedings; investigating claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, sexual misconduct, and other workplace issues; addressing free speech, academic freedom, promotion and tenure, and other faculty-related concerns; overseeing employee discipline, wage and hour, employee benefits, workplace safety, immigration, crisis management, and strategic staffing issues; determining appropriate disability and religious accommodations; negotiating collective bargaining agreements; addressing grievances, mediations, and arbitrations; and monitoring and drafting employment-related legislation.
