The Office of the General Counsel provides advice to the University of Nebraska Medical Center including its Colleges of Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, as well as the Eppley Institute for Cancer Research and Munroe-Meyer Institute on regulatory, compliance operational and transactional matters that impact medical education, research and clinical care.
Regulations and Compliance
Our Office provides guidance on the myriad of rules, regulations and laws that regulate human subjects research and animal research, including FDA regulations, conflict of interest management, privacy, export control, financial administration, clinical trial billing and biosafety.
Privacy of information under the affiliated covered entity
Protecting privacy of patients, as well as employees and students, is important to the University of Nebraska System. As part of an academic medical center, UNMC is an Affiliated Covered Entity and therefore has the same obligations to protect patient information as its teaching hospital partner, Nebraska Medicine.
Research
UNMC is involved in many areas of research that require legal guidance. Our Office provides advice on clinical research, non-federally funded sponsored grants and contracts, research collaborations, clinical trial agreements, data transfer, research misconduct, and intellectual property matters in support of the research functions of an academic medical center.
